NATIONALS POST-RACE SCRUTINEERING
We would like to thank all drivers and mechanics present at the Men's Nationals post-race scrutineering. Everyone was very helpful towards all scrutineers, and there were no irregularities with any of the cars checked. This was an excellent finish to the weekend - thank you to everyone involved. Gordon Harries - NASA Director.
In Car / On Board Cameras
Competitiors are reminded that the use of In-Car and/or On Board Camera equipment is prohibited.
Class 2 Corsa
The Class 2 Corsa will now be allowed to compete in Ladies Class 2 at the 2008 Ladies and Juniors Nationals. However, the Corsa will still not be allowed to compete in Class 2 at the 2008 Mens Nationals.
Junior Specials - Newman Cams
It is with regret we have decided to disallow Newman Cams for use in Junior Specials. Whilst it was a good idea, Newmans could not deliver a cam that would work without alterations to other related components.
Any Junior Special driver with a Newman Cam can return the Cam to Newmans for a full refund. Regards, Derek Hardy (NASA Chief Scrutineer) & Gordon Harris (Director In Charge).
2008 Junior Special Suspension Update
The 2008 rule book now requires a maximum piston diameter on the JS rear strut of 16mm.
The Bilstein strut that is commonly used is an "upside down" strut. The bit at the top, the sliding bit, is not the piston rod but the main body of the shocker. The piston rod is in the bottom and is within the new 16mm rule.
Junior Specials - Newman Cams
It has been brought to our attention that there has been a problem with cams supplied by Newman Cams for the Junior Specials. Please can anyone experiencing these problems, send the cam back to Newmans as soon as possible so they can sort it out. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MODIFY THE CAM FOLLOWERS IN ANY WAY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AS THIS WILL DEEM THE CAR ILLEGAL. If you have any queries, please contact Derek Hardy (Dougal) - NASA Chief Scrutineer on 01935 422067 or 07718 911922.
Steering Test & Wheelying
Following recent tests, rear engined vehicles will now drive through 3 cones, twenty feet apart, at walking pace - see diagram below.
Initially, failure to pass this test will result in a note in your licence and being allowed to race at that meeting - however, if the car fails again at a subsequent test, it will not be allowed to race until it is altered accordingly.
For wheelying - please see Class 4/5/6/7 Rulebook, Page 12, Rule 1.7 and Class 8/9/10 Rulebook, Page 14, Rule 1.8. Initially, cars wheelying will be disqualified from that race and will be able to make alterations and be rescrutineered before competing again at the same meeting. Cars continuing to wheely will be disqualified from the remainder of that meeting.
In the Class 4/5/6/7 Rulebook, Page 28, Rule 2.35 and Class 8/9/10 Rulebook, Page 19, Rule 2.23 are no longer appropriate and will not be enforced for the 2008 season. Members are still highly recommended to build their cars to a 67%-33% weight split.
2008 Rule Book Amendments
There is now a 2008 Rule Book Amendments page for publishing details of any changes to rules for the coming season.
Illegal Cars
Any cars found illegal at any club, league or National meeting will lose all points previously gained if registered in the British Autograss Series from 2008.
2009 Tyre Compounds
NASA have agreed a set tyre compound for the 2009 season with both Maxsport and Sportway. All tyres will be NO SOFTER THAN 50 hardness. This applies to all classes and compound checks with proper equipment will be enforced both during scrutineering and throughout racing on the start-line. Competitors have the 2008 season to use up any current tyres they have.
